Sonia Friedman's theatre production of Uncle Vanya was rapturously received, performing to sold-out audiences night after night.  But, in March 2020, the Covid-19 crisis brought the curtain down on the world of theatre.   

Six months later, Angelica Films, in collaboration with Sonia Friedman Productions, brought this production of Uncle Vanya to a global audience.

Shot using traditional methods combined with handheld cameras on stage, it was an innovative hybrid of film production and theatre, resulting in a new immersive way to experience drama.

Uncle Vanya won the Southbank Sky Arts Award for Theatre in 2021.
